swaping tubes

    s it possible to swap 12ax7's for el84's i heard they use the same socket.
    will i need to rebias? and how does this affect the sound?

    It is not possible to swap these tubes directly as the sockets must be rewired. The 12AX7 is a dual triode preamp tube. It has two separate amplification sections that can be used independently of each other and cannot handle any power.

    The EL64 is a Power penthode meant to operate in the power stage of the amp. It has a single amplification section and can handle much greater current and power than a 12AX7.

    Normally these tubes are never interchanged since they operate in different srtages of the amp and serve different purposes.
